Despite the tough economic climate in 2020, US-based Rockwell Automation – a top-tier provider of industrial automation and information technology globally – gave kudos to Haslop & Mason for its strong sales.
Specifically, it was team member Jaren Wikner who received a Rockwell Automation Distributor Award for his outstanding performance. He exceeded his sales target by 29.2% year-on-year, despite the Covid-19 outbreak and resulting lockdown.
Born and raised in Port Elizabeth (now Gqeberha), Jaren began working for a series of electrical contractors after school, until qualifying as an electrician in 2013.
“In 2017 I saw a Haslop & Mason sales position advertised. What drew me to the company was that they are not just regular distributors, but a premium supplier of PLC automation, which really interests me,” says Jaren.
Within six months Jaren exceeded his sales targets.
“I really enjoy meeting new people but last year, because of the Covid-19 lockdown, it was very difficult.
“For much of last year we were working from home, for the most part using remote access to quote customers, check our stock availability, and arrange orders, PO numbers and deliveries.”
Admittedly, says Jaren, “that wasn’t an easy task”, although his sales numbers suggest otherwise.
Reflecting on the past several years of his career, Jaren says the highlight has definitely been his award from Rockwell Automation.
Kevin Dersley, Haslop & Mason’s managing member, describes Jaren as an integral part of the team, saying, “We are happy and proud of what he has achieved and we applaud his recognition in what has been a very hard year.”
