Home-Grown Success Story at Haslop & Mason

There is something satisfying about seeing one of your own achieving success. So, when Dewald le Roux was appointed Business Manager of Haslop & Mason this year, there was much cause for celebration among the ranks.

Dewald describes himself: “I’m a hard-working, productive, motivated, dedicated individual and I always give 110% to my employer and to Haslop & Mason.”

He is a home-grown Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha) man, having gone to school at Otto du Plessis, from where he matriculated in 1999. It was not long afterwards – 20 years ago – that he started work at Haslop & Mason as a driver. He had seen Haslop & Mason consistently listed as one of the top places to work.

“I’d heard employee testimonials of their enthusiasm for encouraging employee growth through education, training and resources.”

His motivation to “learn new things and to put in the extra effort to learn about the products that are sold by Haslop & Mason” meant that within three years he was promoted to an internal sales position, and two years later to external sales.

“Although my career is very important to me,” he says, “I realise that I must have time with my family. I enjoy cooking with my wife, and she helps me to focus on the detailed instructions – this is very important in my line of work.”

They have an 18-year-old son who has just matriculated and wants to study civil engineering. They enjoy taking family holidays, in Cape Town or Hartenbos, but Dewald says he was afforded “the opportunity of a lifetime to travel to Chicago in 2019 to attend the Rockwell Automation Fair. It was a huge privilege and an opportunity to grow my product knowledge”.

Managing member Kevin Dersley believes that Dewald is a “true asset to our team”. He is confident that Dewald’s twenty years’ experience in the company, having built his career by moving up through the ranks, mean that he has a complete understanding of the industry.

“His ethos follows what we at Haslop & Mason stand for with respect to integrity and customer-centric commitment,” Dersley says.

But what of Dewald’s goals for his team at Haslop & Mason?

“To work hand-in-hand with them to service our clients, and increase productivity and revenue generation, so that we can continue to be ‘Best in Business’.”
