At the heart of everything we do at Haslop and Mason lies our intention to be the best in the business. One of the ways we achieve this is by keeping abreast of our customers’ needs so that we can ensure that those needs are met.

Kevin Dersley, managing member, gives an example of how we achieved complete customer satisfaction recently:

“A Gqeberha-based injection-moulding company, which manufactures components for the automotive industry of Nelson Mandela Bay, called upon Haslop and Mason to render support for some of the elements of their injection moulding process.

“Injection moulding is a manufacturing process that produces complex plastic parts by heating a polymer to a molten state and forcing it, under pressure, into a mould.

“The machines in use at this company were imported for the manufacturing of their components. In turn, they were importing the spares required to maintain the plant and to ensure it remained operational.

“The cost of the imported components and ongoing delays in shipping were becoming a huge headache for the customer, who called on us to see whether we could assist by supplying the heating elements needed for their operation.

“This is where Haslop and Mason support comes in: We assist our customers by designing and supplying the components required[JM1] (manufactured, in this case, by Swift Heat & Control in Johannesburg). Our designs enabled heating of the polymer and its maintenance in a molten state while it was being fed into the mould.”

The customer required three types of elements:

  • Ceramic band heaters: These are placed around a large-diameter pipe to keep the polymer liquid as it flows into the mould;
  • Nozzle heaters: These are used in confined areas where spillages can occur; and
  • Cartridge heaters: These are used to heat metal components.

Designing and manufacturing the correct element for the correct application results in the durability of the element. Longer-lasting elements result in more efficient production runs. This equals cost savings.

“We offered to manufacture samples for a ‘trial and test’ period. This enabled the customer to confirm our boast about the quality of our products. Ultimately, we were able to improve on the design of the elements and to offer them a quality product, with a warranty and a quicker delivery time – all at a lower price than they were accustomed to paying. Everyone was satisfied.”

Masixole Maxamba, account manager at Haslop and Mason for this customer, adds:

“The industrial heating elements we supply to our customers play a critical role in achieving the production output set by management. When those output targets are achieved, we are just as happy.”

Once again, with our customer-centred approach to business, another good news story was possible!
